Whether anticipated or totally unexpected, the death of a friend, family member, or loved one can be devastating, and dealing with the subsequent grief is extremely personal and always individualized.  Although there are established guidelines for dealing with the loss, including denial, arguing, bargaining, depression, and acceptance, the healing process itself is still very unpredictable, and for some, illusive.

While you are delving into these steps on your journey towards healing from the shock and overwhelming trauma associated with this loss, there are ways to ease the pain during the bereavement process:

§  Allow yourself to mourn for your loss. Everyone grieves differently and the time frame for healing differs from person to person

§  Honestly express your feelings with friends and family and share memories of your loved one.

§  You are not alone. Reach out to a therapist, support group or religious organization for guidance, and gain comfort by talking to other people that are also coping with a loss.

§  Exercise and eat wholesome foods. In order to support your mental health, it’s very important to take care of yourself physically. Push yourself to do a light exercise routine every day, even if you don’t feel like it.

§  Prepare for unexpected memories. The grief you’re feeling isn’t going to go away overnight. Accept that for quite some time, certain conversations, gatherings and situations may suddenly bring back memories that cause discomfort and sadness.

YOU CAN OVERCOME THE LOSS OF A LOVED ONE

Individualized, results-oriented treatment will enable you to heal from the trauma of loss and live a balanced, stable emotional life.
